The Federal Reserve last year adopted new credit card rules that ban practices often cited as unfair to consumers, such as raising the interest rate on an existing credit card balance when the consumer is paying the credit card bill on time.
However, those rules don’t go into effect until mid-2010, prompting Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs to re-introduce the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act. The measure was offered last week. Read more

Since learning recently that our nation has gone down the economic dumper, we’ve had time for our financial experts to offer their theories on what went wrong.
Basically, there’s been lots of fingerpointing and placing blame on everyone else but ourselves.
We’ve heard Democrats blame Republicans, and vice versa, the poor blame the rich, and vice versa, and so on, but in the long run it really doesn’t matter who’s at fault. Read more

It’s not just your portfolio that may be shrinking during these turbulent times. The spending limit on your credit card may be heading south as well.
Credit-card issuers have been decreasing credit limits in the wake of the subprime meltdown. Folks with good credit scores and solid credit histories are now getting caught in the fray.
“Most banks are cutting their credit limits,” says Carol Kaplan, spokeswoman for the American Bankers Association. “They’re doing it to everyone.” Read more
