DALLAS — A North Richland Hills man pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to charges stemming from a credit card fraud scheme.

Dung Ba Nguyen, 28, admitted to having more than 100 account numbers that didn’t belong to him — stolen, authorities said, through “skimming.”

Accomplices working at North Texas restaurants used a small hand-held device, known as a “skimmer,” to read and record account numbers from the magnetic strips on the backs of customers’ credit and debit cards, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s officer for the Northern District of Texas. Nguyen was accused of printing fake cards with the stolen information encoded on them and purchasing expensive goods he could sell for cash, the release states. Nguyen pleaded guilty to one count of “fraud in connection with access devices” and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and restitution. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
